GRID Power Act

What this does

This bill directs the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to rework the grid interconnection queue to move certain power projects to the front of the line. Within 90 days of enactment, the Commission must start a rulemaking to address inefficiencies in processing interconnection requests and to amend the standard Large Generator Interconnection Procedures so transmission providers can propose reordering their queues to give higher positions to new dispatchable power projects that improve grid reliability and resource adequacy. Dispatchable power is defined as generation capable of providing known and forecastable supply in the intervals needed for grid reliability. A transmission provider's prioritization proposal must demonstrate the need for it, describe how it improves reliability or resilience, allow public comment and stakeholder engagement beforehand, and include regular reporting to the Commission. The Commission must approve or deny a submitted proposal within 60 days. It must finalize the rules within 180 days of enactment, and review and if necessary update them at least once every five years.
