Pandemic Unemployment Fraud Enforcement Act

What this does

Congress sets a 10-year deadline to prosecute or civilly pursue fraud tied to pandemic unemployment benefits. The bill amends the CARES Act so that any criminal prosecution or civil enforcement action for a listed set of federal fraud, theft, identity-theft, access-device, mail, wire, bank, money-laundering, and False Claims Act offenses connected to a pandemic unemployment claim must be brought within 10 years of the violation or conspiracy. It applies this deadline to three programs: Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation and Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation, and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation. The extended deadline does not revive any case whose statute of limitations had already run out before enactment. The bill also rescinds $5,000,000 from unobligated CARES Act balances.
