What this does

The bill changes how Medicare Part B pays for ultralightweight manual wheelchairs. It directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to create separate billing codes for wheelchair bases made with titanium or carbon fiber, applying to chairs furnished on or after January 1, 2028. Medicare will pay a supplier the same amount for a titanium or carbon fiber base as it would otherwise pay for such a wheelchair. The supplier may then charge the beneficiary the difference between its actual price and the Medicare payment, and the Secretary may require the supplier to warn the beneficiary of that cost before the sale.
