Northwest Straits Marine Conservation Initiative Reauthorization Act of 2025

What this does

The bill reauthorizes the Northwest Straits Marine Conservation Initiative Act, which sits as title IV of Public Law 105-384, and rebuilds it. It strikes the old sections 403 through 405 and inserts new definitions, a restated commission, its goals and duties, and a termination date. The Northwest Straits Advisory Commission is set at 14 members: one each from the county marine resources committees of San Juan, Island, Skagit, Whatcom, Snohomish, Clallam, and Jefferson counties in Washington; two appointed by the Secretary of the Interior to represent Tribal governments; one to represent the Puget Sound Partnership; and four Washington residents appointed by the Governor. The Commission advises on monitoring the marine ecosystem of the Northwest Straits region, collects marine resources data, supports the county marine resources committees, and files an annual report to named committees of Congress. It is given no power to issue regulations or implement federal law. The authority to carry out the title ends 7 years after enactment.
