Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act

What this does

The bill creates a new federal crime for intentionally fleeing a pursuing federal officer while driving a motor vehicle within 100 miles of the U.S. border. The offense covers fleeing a U.S. Border Patrol agent acting under lawful authority, or any federal, state, or local officer assisting or under Border Patrol command. Penalties escalate with harm: up to 2 years in prison for the base offense, 5 to 20 years if serious bodily injury results, and 10 years to life if a death results. The bill also makes any noncitizen convicted of, or who admits, this offense inadmissible and deportable, and ineligible for immigration relief including asylum. The Attorney General and DHS must submit an annual report to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees on the number of violations, charges, apprehensions, and penalties.
