Epstein Files Transparency Act

What this does

This bill orders the Department of Justice to release its Jeffrey Epstein records. Within 30 days of enactment, the Attorney General must post, in a searchable and downloadable format, all unclassified records, communications, and investigative materials the department holds on Epstein, including files from the FBI and United States Attorneys' Offices. The mandate spans nine categories, among them the Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell files, flight and travel logs, people and entities tied to his networks, immunity and non-prosecution deals, internal DOJ communications about charging decisions, records of any destruction or concealment of evidence, and records of his detention and death. The bill bars withholding, delay, or redaction on grounds of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity to any official, public figure, or foreign dignitary. It still permits narrow redactions for victims' private information, child sexual abuse material, material that would jeopardize an active investigation, images of death or abuse, and properly classified national-security information, and every redaction must carry a written justification published in the Federal Register and sent to Congress. Within 15 days of finishing the release, the Attorney General must report to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees and name the government officials and politically exposed persons who appear in the materials.
