Cashless Bail Reporting Act

What this does

This bill creates a reporting requirement and nothing more. It directs the Attorney General to publish, within one year of enactment and every year after, a list of each State and local government that permits release before trial on personal recognizance or an unsecured appearance bond for a covered offense. It defines a covered offense as a crime the Attorney General determines poses a clear threat to public safety, and lists examples including murder, rape, sexual assault, carjacking, robbery, burglary, assault, looting, vandalism, rioting, and fleeing a law enforcement officer. It does not ban, restrict, or condition any State or local bail practice, and it attaches no funding or penalty. It names and counts the jurisdictions; it does not change what they do.
