What this does

This bill writes the NIH IMPROVE Initiative into federal law by adding a new section 409K to the Public Health Service Act. It directs the Director of the National Institutes of Health to continue running a maternal health research program aimed at reducing preventable maternal deaths and severe complications, closing gaps in outcomes for populations with disproportionately high rates, and improving care before, during, and after pregnancy. To run it, the Director may award grants or enter into contracts, cooperative agreements, or other transactions. The bill authorizes $63,400,000 for each of fiscal years 2026 through 2030.
