Overturning the FCC E-Rate Hotspot Rule

Official title: A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Federal Communications Commission relating to "Addressing the Homework Gap Through the E-Rate Program".

What this does

Using the Congressional Review Act, this resolution would void the Federal Communications Commission's rule titled Addressing the Homework Gap Through the E-Rate Program, published at 89 Fed. Reg. 67303 on August 20, 2024. That rule had allowed E-Rate program support for Wi-Fi hotspots and wireless internet service that students and library patrons could use off premises. If it takes effect, the rule has no force or effect. Under the Congressional Review Act, the agency may not reissue it in substantially the same form without new authorization from Congress. The Senate passed the resolution on May 8, 2025; the text reflects the Senate-engrossed version.
